Pure Magic

portrait, adult, men's

There is this unspoken connection between Justin and his boys from Hazelden.  One I have to honestly say, as a wife of someone in recovery, I’m a little jealous of.  To see them talk about the hard stuff, share the stories of the life inside those Hazel walls, to laugh–I mean really laugh–the laughs that bust your gut, the laughs that turn into the high pitch girlie chuckle, that can be heard rooms away.  When I hear Justin talking on the phone with his Hazel boys, or even better, get to see them interact in person, it is pure magic.  Seeing boys in recovery, rooting for one another, showing up when they slip, supportive when they screw up, and excited for each other’s wins in life-This is pure magic and something that only they have.  When those twinges of jealousy sneak in, I remind myself that this is what I prayed for while he was in treatment.  I knew in order for Justin to be successful in his recovery, he needed these boys.  He needed the comradery that was shared in only hearts and minds of other addicts.
